CORVALLIS, Ore.– Andrew Moore held California to two hits in a complete-game shutout of the Golden Bears in No. 6 Oregon State’s 5-0 win Saturday afternoon in front of 3,053 fans at Goss Stadium.

Moore needed just 87 pitches to throw his first career complete game, and improved to 9-1 on the year in the process. His effort propelled the Beavers to the series victory over the Golden Bears and Oregon State will be going for the sweep of Cal Sunday at 12:05 p.m. PT.

“Andre was excellent today,” Oregon State head coach Pat Casey said. “He kept the ball down and kept the Cal batters off balance. We had a big inning offensively in the second and that was good enough for the win.”

Moore faced 29 batters in the win, his seventh quality start of the season. He struck out two and walked one while allowing a single to Devin Pearson in the second and another single to Mitchell Kranson in the eighth.

Moore, Matt Boyd and Tony Bryant have combined to hold the Golden Bears (21-25 overall, 9-14 Pac-12 Conference) to five hits in the first two games of the series while issuing just two walks to go along with 14 strikeouts.

The Beavers (36-8, 16-4) loaded the bases with no outs in both the first and second innings. OSU could not capitalize in the first, stranding all three runners but the Beavers came through with four runs in the second.

Andy Peterson blooped a single over the second baseman’s head to score the first two runs of the inning, then scored himself when Dylan Davis drove in two with a double off the left field fence.

Davis’ third RBI of the game came in the sixth and sent the Beavers to a 5-0 advantage. He walked with the bases loaded.

Peterson led the Beavers with three hits while Davis pitched in with two. His three RBI gave him 11 multiple-RBI games on the year.

California’s Trevor Hildenberger started for the Golden Bears and allowed nine hits and five runs in six innings of work. He struck out three and walked four to take the loss, dropping his record to 5-3 this season.

Oregon State and California wrap up the series Sunday at 12:05 p.m. PT.
